If you are searching for a pap smear in Miami Gardens, you've found the right place. Cervical cancer is highly preventable when caught early. A test takes less than 5 minutes and could save your life.
Covered By Most Plans
A pap smear — also called a Pap test or cervical smear — is a routine gynecological procedure that collects a small sample of cells from the surface of your cervix. Those cells are sent to a laboratory to be examined under a microscope for any signs of abnormal changes.
The goal is to detect cervical dysplasia (precancerous changes) before they can develop into cervical cancer. Cervical cancer was once a leading cause of cancer death, but today, regular screening reduces the risk of dying from it by more than 80%.
Your physician reviews your results personally and contacts you directly. Here is a breakdown of what different test results mean.
No abnormal cells detected. No immediate action is needed. You can schedule your next pap smear according to standard guidelines.
The sample didn't contain enough cells for a reliable reading. This is not a cause for alarm — you'll simply repeat the test in a few weeks.
Atypical Squamous Cells. Cells look slightly abnormal but the cause is unclear. Often resolved with HPV testing to determine next steps.
Low-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion. Mild cell changes, most often related to HPV. Usually monitored with a follow-up test.
High-Grade Squamous Lesion. More significant precancerous changes that require further evaluation (colposcopy), but are highly treatable.
Atypical Glandular Cells. This requires further evaluation of the cervix and uterus. Your physician will guide you through the next steps.
HPV is extremely common. A positive test does not mean cancer. We determine the specific strain and recommend appropriate monitoring.
For women ages 30–65, combining a pap smear with an HPV test (co-testing) is the most comprehensive screening available. Ask us during your visit.
Current guidelines from ACOG and the USPSTF. Never skip a recommended test without discussing it first.
Pap smears are generally not recommended yet, but general well-woman visits remain important.
A pap smear alone is recommended every 3 years to monitor cervical health.
A pap smear every 3 years OR a Pap + HPV co-test every 5 years for maximum accuracy.
Women over 65 or post-hysterectomy may stop screening with physician approval. Immunocompromised patients need more frequent testing.
Before arriving, avoid intercourse, creams, or tampons for 48 hours.
Our bilingual team verifies your insurance upon arrival. Most plans cover this screening at no out-of-pocket cost.
Your physician reviews your last pap date, prior abnormal results, medications, and overall reproductive health.
Using a speculum, your physician gently collects a few cells from the cervix. This takes about 2–3 minutes and shouldn't hurt.
Cells are placed in a liquid solution and sent to the lab. Results are usually available within 24–48 hours.
The Affordable Care Act requires most health insurance plans to cover cervical cancer screening at no cost to the patient.
